Commander Ali’s Academy of Merchant Navy (CAAMN), as its name defines, was founded by commander S.T. Ali, NM (Retd.) on 1st of September 1994 at Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh). Commander Ali meritoriously served for 42 years in the Indian Navy, and after superannuation stepped up to educate and train youngsters for the merchant navy. Commander Ali started this Academy to pass on his vast legacy of maritime knowledge to the youth of today and also to encourage the young aspirants to join the adventurous profession of Merchant Navy.
The Academy shifted its operations to Hyderabad in June 2001. Since then it has grown from strength to strength and today it offers one of the best facilities in the field of maritime training in India. The Academy is an ISO 9001:2015 Institution certified by DNV GL and all its courses have been approved by the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), Government of Australia, and Liberian International Ships and Corporate Registry (LISCR), Republic of Liberia. The Academy trains cadets and ratings using a combination of practical demonstrations and classroom teaching using sophisticated Simulators, software and, audio-video equipment thus giving a real-time feel of life on board a ship.
