Pre-Sea Training for General Purpose Ratings

The training program is a Six months Pre-Sea Training Program approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. The training comprises a theoretical and practical study of General Ship Knowledge and Marine Engineering Knowledge which allows the successful trainees to join the merchant shipping in the Deck or Engineering Department as a Trainee GP Rating. This course is conducted twice a year with batches commencing January and July each year. The approved course capacity of this Academy is 120 trainees per batch.

Pass with aggregate 40% marks in 10th Standard from a recognized Board with Science, Mathematics as subjects and with minimum 40% marks in the English language.

Or

Pass in 2-Year I.T.I. course from Govt. Approved Institute with minimum 50% aggregate marks in final year and minimum 40% marks in English at 10th or Diploma Exam.

It is mandatory to have a passport at the time of course joining.

  • 17½ - 25 Years
  • 27 Years for candidates holding Degree or Diploma
  • 30 Years for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste / Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) category
  • 28 Years for candidates belonging to Other Backward Caste (OBC) Category

The candidate aspiring to join this course should be within the above age limit on the date of course commencement.

Medical and Eye-Sight requirements shall be as per the existing standards of DG Shipping. 6/6 Vision with no colour blindness. No speech impairment (disorder).

Every trainee will have to undergo and produce a Medical Fitness certificate issued by DG Shipping approved Doctor. The List of approved Doctors and medical centers can be downloaded from www.dgshipping.com

All admissions for the GP Rating course are done by the Academy. All aspiring candidates meeting the above-mentioned admission criteria can contact the Academy along with their educational qualification documents and register for the course.

120 Candidates Per Batch (240 Candidates annually).

This Academy conducts internal examinations during training to gauge the progress of trainees.
The final examinations are conducted through The All India Exit Examination for GP Ratings which is conducted in four parts comprising Online, Oral, and Practical which is conducted by the Board of Examination for Seafarers Trust, Navi Mumbai. The Trainee has to secure a minimum of 60% in each of the parts to Qualify.

CAAMN shall provide courseware and teaching material for the training. All trainees are provided an additional stationery kit.

All trainees will be provided the following certificates after the course and successfully passing the All India Exit Examination:

  • Pre-Sea Training Certificate (Issued by CAAMN)
  • Pre-Sea Training Certificate (Issued by BEST)
  • Basic Safety Training (PST/PSSR/EFA/FPFF)
  • Security Training for Seafarers in Designated Security Duties
  • Oil & Chemical Tanker Cargo Operations
  • Indian National Database of Seafarers (INDos) Registration
  • Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC)

GP Rating is trained in both Deck and Engine Room duties. They can be employed in either the Deck or Engine department according to the needs of the company. Ratings work on the ship involves seamanship activities, cargo handling, maintenance work, operation, and maintenance of machinery.

The cost of six months Pre-Sea Training is Rs.200,000/- (Rupees Two Lakh Only). The fee is subject to change at the discretion of the management and the fee paid is not refundable under any circumstances.

Registration Fee - Rs.30,000/- (Rupees Thirty Thousand Only) to be paid for seat confirmation.
Balance Course Fee - Rs.170,000/- (Rupees One Lakh Seventy Thousand Only) to be paid at the time of reporting for joining the Course. The date of joining (reporting) is 3 days before the date of course commencement.

Kindly note that we do not offer any installment Facility. The complete fee is to be cleared at the time of reporting.
